WOMEN'S MOUNTAIN RETREAT 2017
"Speakers & Singers"
Public Speaking is not easy, it requires certain characteristics, nerves of steel, and a speaker to women's Christian events must have a real calling on her life.
We, at Women's Mountain Retreat, are richly blessed to have some of the best and I think you would enjoy getting to know each of them a little better. I think you will see that they qualify for the ministry to which God has called them.
As promised, we will begin highlighting speakers and singers for WMR 2017: faces with which you are familiar and maybe some new faces. Let's begin with a beloved and familiar lady, Linda Hicks, who has been speaking at Christian Ladies Events for many years.
When you have been speaking as long as Linda has you have some things going for you, like experience, and Linda has decades of it!
America loves "poll", getting the heartbeat of people on a particular subject. We enjoy reading them, and our response is everything from, "No, I don't believe that," to "I am very surprised, but it makes sense.." for instance,
I have heard polls on television, radio, and read them in magazines on all sorts of questions, but this one has always intrigued me: "What You Most"?
Then, comes the Top Ten answers, and they make for interesting and entertaining viewing or listening. The Top Ten are really no surprise: elevators, heights, mice, snakes, taking tests, spiders, flying...my response to the winner of most of these polls was surprising to me, it is the number one or two or every poll - Public Speaking!
One lady explained that the thought of standing before a group of people, all eyes on her, expecting something interesting, informative or witty to come from her lips, well, it terrified so much she would become physically ill!
Why is this? It is simple. It's not a fear of people, but an overwhelming fear of failure...failure to be compelling, funny: fear of being laughed at or, worse, looking out at that audience and seeing nothing but yawns, or they might be reading something, or talking to a friend…not the least interested in her. It happens, but experience soon eliminates this behavior.
The truth is: It ain't easy!! It is a gift. Whether you're really good or really bad at it, it is a gift, it's just that some try to speak without thoroughly preparing, and in the case of speaking to a group of Christian ladies, not praying and asking God to give you what that particular group needs on that particular day.
Linda has been speaking so long she can size up an audience quickly, pray while speaking that God will give exactly what those hearts need. On top of that, she can give you a deep Truth from God's Word, turn around the next moment and have you laughing...she is a funny lady and her wit is a God-given gift, just her speaking is!
Did I mention her "other" gift"? Linda Hicks has a voice so powerful, so beautiful that the first time I heard it she became my favorite singer...ever!
As wonderful as Linda is, just think, she's only ONE of our gifted, anointed speakers! There are five, and each one different, but each one will have something from God to give you, something to enlighten, encourage or strengthen you.
Stay tuned: Next, we will introduce you to Dr. Angeline Godwin...you're gonna love them all!
